Draft - effective date set at launch
Foliana is a clarity library, not a data business. Here is exactly what we keep, where it lives, and the controls you have over it.
The short version
Foliana is built to hold as little of your data as possible. Today, your account and everything you read live on your own device, in your browser. We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising.
This policy explains what that means in plain language, the same way we try to explain everything else.
What we store, and where
In the current version of Foliana, the information below is kept in your browser (local storage and a session cookie) on the device you use. It does not leave your device unless a future update introduces cloud sync, which this policy will be updated to describe before it happens.
- Your account: the name and email you sign up with, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your password.
- Your reading: which clarities you have opened, how far you got, and which you have finished.
- Your settings: the shores you follow, your default reading mode, and whether you prefer the day or night theme.
We do not collect location, contacts, biometric data, or any special-category personal data.
Cookies
Foliana uses a few small cookies, all strictly functional. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

How we use your information
We use what we store only to run the product for you: to sign you in, to remember where you left off, to draw your atlas, and to nudge you before an idea fades. We do not profile you for advertising, and we do not use your reading to train models without telling you first.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. In the current local-first version, there is nothing to share - your data never reaches our servers. When cloud features arrive, any processors we rely on (for hosting, payments, or email) will be listed here, and used only to deliver the service.
Your controls
Your data is yours, and Foliana gives you direct control from the Account screen:
- Export: download everything Foliana holds about you as a single file, any time.
- Delete: permanently erase your account, atlas, and progress from your device.
Because your data currently lives on your device, clearing your browser storage also removes it.
Children
Foliana is written to be readable by curious people of any age, but accounts are intended for users aged [16] and over, or with the consent of a parent or guardian where local law requires it. [Confirm the age threshold and any parental-consent flow with legal before launch.]
Changes to this policy
If we change how Foliana handles your data - especially when cloud sync, payments, or any new processor is introduced - we will update this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
